I did it With A Little Help From My Friends

So sorry. If you were stressed out by my latest post. There is a point to erase the London loneliness. You just had to cross the road to find warm feelings and Fab companions even with freezy weather.

Désolée, si votre sang n’a fait qu’un tour face à mon dernier post. Il y a bien un moyen de combattre  la solitude de la ville. Il n’y a parfois qu’à traverser la rue pour se lover dans un bain de tendresse et retrouver des camarades absolument fabuleux même sous un ciel clément mais glacial. 

You know what? Here comes the sun. Rooftops are open, Londoners have been enjoying Bank Holidays and Brexit is coming, like winter. Despite the blue sky, the brave Londoners face the unique social political atmosphere of the pre-European votes, and yes sometimes, you got to carry that weight. “Where is Abbey Road?” Religion may not be the answer but music is (some people tend to say that it is the same thing.) After the party and the fussy feeling, it’s time for the big hangover. After Sergeant Peppers’ Lonely Heart Club Band, the Abbey Road opus.  

Connaissez-vous la nouvelle ? Le soleil vient de se relever. Les rooftops se sont dévoilés, les Londoniens en Bank Holidays se sont reposés et le Brexit pointe le bout de son nez. Malgré le ciel bleu, les citadins courageux affrontent le climat austère avant les Elections européennes ubuesques, il faut continuer de tenir! « Où est Abbey Road? » La religion n’est peut être  pas la solution, mais la musique l’est. (Certaines personnes affirment pourtant qu’il s’agit de la même chose.) Après la célébration et les sentiments émerveillés et  exacerbés, c’est la gueule de bois. Comme après Sergeant Peppers’ Lonely Heart Club Band, c’est l’heure d’Abbey Road. 

I’ve really got this crazy feeling to drive my mates Kelly and Alice to my first British music report place. As a guide. A guide among the tourists who are still very keen on following Lennon’s footsteps, Macca and cie. I mean I didn’t dare telling them that the crossing had changed since. But nevermind.

C’était un peu la débâcle des sentiments de conduire le duo Kelly et Alice dans ce lieu où j’ai fait mes premiers reportages musicaux britanniques. Comme guide. Un guide au milieu des touristes qui sont toujours partant pour suivre les pas des Quatre garçons dans le vent. Je n’ai pas osé leur dire que le passage piéton n’était pas le même. Qu’importe !

We just needed 10 minutes to take the pictures. Unless the original cover, we didn’t get the chance to be escorted by a policeman. But we lasted some hours waiting and finding the good time to strike the pause. The backstage images are less famous than the graphic cover but a bit of casualness was the motto of their and our photo shooting.

Il ne nous a fallu que 10 minutes pour faire les clichés. Mais contrairement à la photo originale, nous n’avons pas eu la chance d’être accompagnées d’un policier. Nous avons donc dû passer pas mal de temps à attendre pour trouver le parfait timing pour prendre la pause. Les photos des coulisses sont moins célèbres que la pochette, si graphique mais la décontraction retenue était le maître-mot de leur et de notre séance.

Sitting on the dock of Abbey Road studio, we were not backstage as the band used to be. But in the middle of the crowd, thanks to the opening of shop at the corner of the studio. Mainstream shopping two steps from the recording time of top notch artists is something. When art is on is way, the living museum keeps resonating its history and the new fans who can capture this moment thanks to the camera.

Assises sur le ponton du studio, nous étions bien moins isolées que le groupe ne l’était. Mais bien au milieu de la foule, grâce à l’ouverture de la boutique à l’angle. Un point shopping  populaire à deux pas du lieu d’enregistrement des plus Grands déclenche une sacrée émotion. Quand l’art se crée, le musée plus vivant que jamais vibre au rythme de son histoire. Les fans continuent d’immortaliser  le moment grâce à la camera de sécurité.

The idea was to create an album as they used to do for Abbey Road album. The vintage way was being together. Like for Sergeant’s Pepper of the Lonely Heart Club Band. For this album, they were so creative that they sometimes forget daily events, such as the time when Paul McCartney received a fine for a forbidden parking spot. To thank the policewoman, he wrote Lovely Rita and we went and visited the lovely girl.

Pour Abbey Road, l’idée était de créer un album comme avant, d’être ensemble comme pour Sergeant’s Pepper of the Lonely Heart Club Band. iIs étaient tellement emportés dans un vent de créativité qu’ils en  oubliaient les désagréments de la vie quotidienne. Comme Paul McCartney qui a eu la bonne surprise de recevoir une amende pour une erreur de stationnement. On doit à cet épisode la chanson Lovely Rita qui remercie la pervenche en question. Nous sommes allés rendre visite à la charmante policière.

The album was the last of the band but the start of something new, the own creativity of the musicians. Paul hears the troubles of the band on Maxwell’s Silver Hammer while Ringo had some watering dreams in Octopus Garden. Kelly and I picked George and John to embrace with a legendary classic style. And if John was in love and was recovering from an accident, about to be the hippie cool New Yorker artist married with already very present Yoko Ono. George with his casual jean outfit started his romantic guitarist career with heartbreaking songs such as Something – Here Comes the Sun. Even if we tried to tear us apart, again, it was hard to stay alone for very long.
Sad all our own, Better with others. Come Together like they used to sing.

L’opus était le dernier du groupe mais le début d’une autre aventure, l’épanouissement de la créativité de chaque musicien. Paul avait osait évoquer les soucis du quatuor dans Maxwell’s Silver Hammer alors que Ringo célébrait ses ambitions aquatiques dans Octopus Garden. Avec Kelly, nous avons choisi d’endosser les rôles de George et John pour leur côté totalement intemporel. Et si John, plus amoureux que jamais se remettant de son accident, était sur le point de devenir l’emblématique artiste hippie new yorkais marié à l’omniprésente Yoko Ono, George avec son look décontracté en jean commençait sa carrière de guitariste romantique avec ses chansons crève-coeur Something ou Here Comes the Sun. Et même si nous avons essayé de nous séparer, il était très dur de rester seul. Triste, seul alone, bienheureux à plusieurs. Come Together comme ils chantaient !
